In this question, the object is decelerating at 12.5ms^-2. Using F=ma, is the resultant force a negative or positive value? The TYS answer key wrote it as a positive value.

The sign gives the direction of the force. So don't worry, you can put as -62.5 N.
However, if the question says braking or decelerating force, the sign is taken care of by the question and the answer must only state the magnitude.
